FGF: What they think of you is THEIR problem

FGF: What they think of you is THEIR problem

Hey FITLV Crew!

FIT LV back with another #feelgoodfriday. This morning's topic is one I am very passionate about.

What People Think of You is Their Problem.

(Read that Again.)

When you're just starting out on a fitness journey or lifestyle change, there is a really good chance it will strike a nerve with some people. They will have snide remarks, eye rolls, and potentially gossip about you.

WHY?

It's not their life. IKR!!!!

Because PEOPLE DON'T LIKE CHANGE!!!! Even if it's not them that's changing, it's changing someone they know, therefore they feel entitled to have an opinion. Additionally, change for the better can feel threatening if they themselves are not also on a path of self development.

Say for instance, you've always been the "down for whatever friend." Down to order in whatever restaurant for lunch and suddenly you are bringing your lunches to work. Maybe you used to be the GO-TO for happy hour or weekend cocktails and you are really focused on eliminating alcohol. Whatever the case may be, your newfound discipline and focus is threatening to them and they are going to talk about it.

Last week I had two different client phone calls, here were their scenarios:

1. Snarky co-workers having opinions about the client bringing their meal preps. One co worker in particular felt the need to repeatedly make comments. My advice was let the person know they weren't actually interested in any feedback!! Or something along the lines of, "I know my new nutritional habits may not make any sense to you, but I am not doing it for you. So unless you have something positive to say about it, I am really not interested in hearing your comments." :)

2. Insecure personal trainer feeling threatened by the client adding in the Elite Coaching Program. My advice here was to say something along the lines of, "My additional coaching services should not feel as any threat to what you provide as they are complimentary services. I am happy to continue training with you as long as you will be supportive and encouraging of the additional coaching I am investing in. If not, we can part ways for the interim."

Always remember guys, people are going to be INSECURE in their lack of knowledge or lack of discipline and potentially as a defense mechanism, try and bring you down.

DON’T LET EM.

It’s really easy to entrust in your peers.

It’s really easy to listen to the peanut gallery. At work. At Church. In your friend group. In your mom group.

It’s really easy to fall off when you just get started.

It’s really easy to feel unsupported and misunderstood.

I've been there.

I've been at the parties where I got called out for NOT drinking. I've been at get togethers where I chose to not eat the catered food or ate less and people had something smart to say. Here is what I learned:

-People pay the most attention to what others are doing when they are unhappy in their own lives.

-Most people won't care at all.

-At the end of the day, the only person that should be concerned with what you put in your body is YOU. Whether or not you eat the food, have the drinks, that is on YOU and only impact YOU.

-People's opinions are THEIR problem. You are not responsible for their feelings.

Excuse Yourself.

❤️Excuse yourself from the guilt other people make you feel when you don't participate.

❤️Excuse yourself from feeling the need to justify your actions or inactions at every turn.

❤️Excuse yourself from the shame if you choose to go off plan every now and again.

Life is too short to be anything but your best self. The only person that gets to decide what that person looks like is YOU.

⚡️You are most likely shedding a version of who you once were, to create the next best version of you.

⚡️You are most likely purging old habits and old ways, that those around you got used to.

⚡️You are most likely not going to please everyone with your new systems and processes.

Strengthen your Mind

As easy as it is to let naysayers weasel their way into your mind, you've got to focus on silencing the noise and staying committed to your path. MENTAL resilience is quite possibly the most important thing you will need to adopt when changing your lifestyle. Do your best to consume social media, books, podcasts, and words that are supportive and encouraging of your path of self development. Surround yourself with people who are on a similar journey themselves or are where you want to be!  Finally, give yourself permission to say no to people and things that aren't in alignment with you.

🙅🏻‍♀️Don’t get in your own way trying to please those around you.

Take your meals to work with you and DON’T EXPLAIN WHY. Let them judge, who cares.

Take protein shakes with you to your kids ball game and pass on the white claws, YOU DON’T HAVE TO JUSTIFY IT. Let them roll their eyes, who cares.

Go home from the event early so you can get your full 8 hours of sleep, YOU DON’T HAVE TO STAY TO PLEASE OTHERS. Let them talk, who cares.

BE SO CONVICTED IN WHO YOU ARE BECOMING THAT NO ONES OPINION CAN SLOW YOU DOWN.

🔥Keep showing up.

🔥Keep surrounding yourself with motivated and uplifting people.

🔥Keep your eyes on your own paper.

🔥Remind yourself on who's life you're living.

As always, thanks for being here. Now go WIN the day. Happy Friday Team

Peace, Love, and Burpees.
